Mass movements!!!!!

The primary cause of mass movements gravity, a mass movement is basically when a rock slide or mud slide happen (so when stuff moves down a hill or mountain). there are actually different types of mass movements which include land slides and mud slides. these mass movement are caused by heat rising, earthquakes, and human made mass movements. mass movements will cause social and economic impacts. social because people die or lost valuable items. economic impact because of cost for new stuff. one example of a mas movement was Nepal a 7.8 magnitude earthquake mad caused a mud slide.

San Andreas Fault- the big one

firat of the movie San Andreas should technically be renamed to puente hills for Los angles is above the puente hills fault. But one the other hand it should not be changed because San Andreas (in the movie) effects the world,  puente hills effects only L.A.

The last "major" earthquake was in 1860 it was a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. Dr. Jones is a sizemetologist with the USGS and is known for watching a 7.2 E.Q. Dr. Jones is worried about all the buildings that would fall down. Retrofitting is when you reinforce old buildings that would fall over if there was a big E.Q. Today if there was a 7.5 magnitude Earthquake about 18,000 people would die  millions would be homeless and 250 billions in damage. Puente Hills is under L.A. And San Andreas is over 30 miles away from L.A.

Sea level rise

So the vary basic thing that I can say is that the sea level is riseing slowly but Shurly. Some reasons that the sea level is rising is because of the heat from the industral revolution which is melting land based ice and heat will make the water expaned. Also the less gravity the higher the water. The way scientists are able to measure the rise and drop of water Levels is because of satilite altimetry it measures how long a radio wave hits the water (satiltie to ocean back to satiltie). So they recorde the height of the ocean and see if there is sea level rise, decrease, or the same. See a graph here .
This waters are on the rise at times
The CO2 has made the oceans rise because of this

Ocean Acidification

So basically the ocean is becoming  more acidic due to the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere and ocean. The increase of CO2 is due to the burning of fossil fuels and other things that us humans do. The chemistry of the ocean has changed due to the CO2 in the water which is making the ocean more acidic and marine shell creatures are becoming smaller because they canot grow there shells. The the ocean is more acidic like a battery but it should be like distilled water and a base is bleach.
Battery's an example of an acid

Human footprint,carbon and sustainability

First of here are some low impact places ( from left to wright on map below)1) kepreanof, alaska, population around 27 people. People moved out to more populated areas and this mostly fishermen Barley and cars. 2) King William Island, population 1,279(as of 2011). So this place is just an island with a few towns and some other stuff with little cars. 3) Town of Leaf Rapids, Canada population in 2006 was 539. The town was developed as an experimental model; a model that other northern communities could replicate as they strove for modern convenience and luxury in a northern environment. 4) nuuk greenland, population 15,666 it was built to be a tourist stop and information center. So not much impact on the earth. 5) Grindavik, Iceland, population 2,888. This town was founded by Vikings and the U.S. Navy has radio antennas out there but that is really all that is out there.

Now here are some high impact places ( from left to wright on map below) 1) Seattle, Washington this city has huge ports and docs with a population of 652,405 as of 2013. Also has sports teams that cause traffic. 2) Houston, Texas population in 2013 was 2,195,914. Has a sports team and a lot of cars to make an urban area. 3) Detroit Michigan, home to Detroit Tigers (baseball team) population in 2010 was 713,777. Has a lot of cars and some factorys. 4) Jacksonville, Florida in 2010 had a population of 1,345,596. Has a lot of cars for a metropolises area and has the biggest population in Florida. 5) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania home of many sports teams in 2010 had a population of 1,526,006 people over 1.5 million people Philadelphia also has many historical places that people go to see and that means a lot of hotels, rental car places and an air port.

carbon + me

The carbon cycle is the process of how we reuse carbon in the earths ecosystem. There are many ways that carbon enters the carbon cycle here are a few, respiration and diffusion. Respiration is when animals release CO2 though breathing out. Diffusion is when CO2 enters through land, oceans, and atmosphere. Carbon is good because it keeps the green house gas here which is like a blanket over our earth (heat is still here). We also get fossil fuels from carbon  after a long time of carbon being I the ground. One bad thing about carbon is that the earth is getting warmer because of the greenhouse gas effect. Things that will convert to fossil fuels include plats and animals if left in the ground with little oxygen for a long time. my own carbon I avoiding 491 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per year but the average American.
This is equivalent to the emissions from driving a car 524 miles.

Why am I on restriction

Dear kearny high school students we are being restricted on water usage because of the drought. On March 17 2015 the accosted press said that new water restrictions have been put into effect. And people can get fined up to $500 for wasting water.

Some water restrictions include watering lawns two times a week, in a restaurant you must ask for a refill of water not the waiter will just refill your water without your permission. you can now say that you want to use your old sheets/ towels in hotels and motels. if there is a leak water specialists will notify you and tell you to fix it. this water law will be enforced by water department people giving you a $500 fine if you do not obey the flowing rules.

only do this twice a week from now on

Plastics, Greenhouse gases and Sustainability

Plastics and greenhouse gases have a negative effect on the earth because plastics will photo degrade in the ocean and become really small pieces. These small plastic pices can't be cleaned up because they are to small and there are huge areas of plastic pices. The heat from the greenhouse gases will make different weather changes the polution from plastics will also contribute to the heat.

Plastics find there way to the ocean because we do not recycle and even if we do recycle wind will still take the plastics away and into the water and there the plastics breakdown into small pices because of the photodegading. The marine life will suffer because of the plastics in the water and some marine life will learn to adapt to the changes in the water but the polution will still harm the life.

Humans made the green house gas effect that keeps the heat from leaving the earth like a big blanket. But this blanket reaches around the earth and is in the air we breath and our atmosphere. The greenhouse effect started around the industrial revolution and was maid known for some time later.

Plastics are not good for sustainability because it can break down in the sun and can be harmful to animals because we are not recycling. Green house gases are issues for sustainability because the climate will change and that makes people worry that flooding will happen because the polar ice caps will melt. And the worst part humans created the greenhouse effect so heat can't leave the earth and is instead recycled over and over again.
We need to do better at recycling.
The green house gas effect is like this a blanket

San Diego, CA water

San Diego California and water use and prevention

San Diego is basically a desert and we get water from far away places 37% of our water comes from within CA and the other 63% comes from the Colorado river.

In the future water demands will rise and water will start being recycled and desalinization. if there is climate change in the future then there will be a bigger demand for water.

The main reasons for an increase in water will be because of population increase and climate change.

our demands will be meat when we have a new water source that is better than our previous water sources.

one graph shows that we will need to find a new source of water by 2050. another part on the graph shows that if there is no climate change then we will have more water from the Colorado river. basically reusing water will make up a portion of our water in the future. basically we need water badly in the future witch will prove to be a challenge when the population increases.
some ways we can conserve water includes: rain barrels, fake grass, and drip irrigation.the rain barrels will collect storm drain and down fall water which will give us a rebate of $75. fake grass well its just grass that you do not need to water which will save money. drip irrigation is where you water plants with only drips saving again money and water for San Diego.

the extinction of the dinosaurs

In the New York Times article by Peter Brannen titled The Death of the Dinosaurs published on January 31, 2015, the author argued that the evidence for the extinction of the dinosaurs via climate change and massive volcanic activity explains the demise of these ancient creatures better than their demise caused by a "colossal fireball from heaven." http://nyti.ms/1yU55rg (http://dannyblasearthscience.blogspot.com/)

Dr. keller is a geologist at prinston who says that climate change is the reason the dinosaurs went extinct.

The father and son team made the theory that most people say is true, basically a meteor hit the earth and killed the dinosaurs.

Earth has had five major extinctions that we now of and that makes me feel worried that this can happen again which is not good.

Rocks in Texas, Tunisia tell Dr. Keller that warming episodes caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.

In my opinion the dinosaurs were killed by a meteor which led to volcanoes to erupt and kill the dinosaurs.
